PHT 350 High Key Portraits

One of the last assignments in our Portrait I class is the "High Key" portrait. It can be a challenge to create what is classified as high key portraits. I think that you will agree with me that the following are all a very strong representation of the "High Key" portrait created by some of our second year students. Enjoy.

  1. I'm curious - what's the difference between a "high-key" and a "low-key" portrait?

    The photos are fantastic!

  2. High key photographs / portraits are predominately light in tone while low key images are predominately dark in tone. Each approach brings a different feeling to the image based on our cultural, psychological and learned responses to these situations. High key images are often used to portray innocence, purity, joy and wistful feelings. Low Key images are used for feelings of mystery, intrigue, "darkness", and quiet times.
